I did a forum search, but the terms were too common to perform the search apparently.
I just wondered if there were a chance you could add this feature please Alexey.
As there is already an option to Check for updates in the Menu, would it be too much extra work to perform a download and auto install that downloaded update? Including beta updates.
Would be a great time saver!
Thank you for an amazing program! I keep looking at Notepad++ due to the Rainmeter lexer, Snippets and other things that users of Rainmeter have made for Np++. But I can't seem to part with CT as it's just so damn good, and easy to use for the most part. Those parts that are not so easy are always improving too thanks to your great work on this project!

I don't plan to add auto-updater
- no wish to embed some UNZIP code (bloat)
- for Linux, I will need to run the un-xz tool
- for Mac, I cannot do anything - DMG installer is used
- I fear the issues with the updater
About Rainmeter.
CudaText has such a lexer.
so what do you miss here?
snippets? but we can make any snippets for Rainmeter, you can just create snippet files and send me the package like these -
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cudate ... ippets_ct/
(needed the Snippets plugin)

Automatic updating of software is a cancerous feature and those who implement it and enable by default, should be hanged.
Because it's too much work to open a browser, visit the website and look for a newer release, download and install it.
It takes hours to click buttons, arduous physical and mental labor, that has to be done on a daily basis, or more often.
As you've said, there is a menu item, which checks for a newer version, displays both the current and newer version numbers. It asks whether you want to open the URL in your browser.
It's perfect as it is, that's how everyone should do their stuff.
For ONE app, no, it's no problem, but when there are a ton of apps requiring the same thing, Yes it is a problem! It becomes tedious, time wasting and a pain in the ass!friend wrote: Because it's too much work to open a browser, visit the website and look for a newer release, download and install it.
@Alexey:
Understood. thanks for your honesty though.
The main thing I am missing is the Snippets. But to recreate what's been done in Notepad++ will take a great deal of work.
But I can do it over time, slowly, so it's not a great issue.
Also, I don't need the included Snippets list, I know I can delete them, but upon reinstalling, they'll be back, every update. Would it be possible for them to not be included and supply a link, like the one above, for those that do need them?

It would only do so if users wanted it. Every software that auto-updates has a check box option asking if users want it or not.
I don't understand why you think it's a bad idea. I've never had any issues with any software that uses it. But hey, if you don't want to, fair enough.
