It is interesting that it can be made other way.
Sublime makes it another way, maybe will consider to make such mode...
but later..

That seems to be the same way AkelPad does it... a simple-minded rectangular and ABSOLUTELY NOT  what I want. So if you ever want to implement such a mode (which may be what some people are expecting) please leave the current method as an option as it can be made to do what I want. See attached pic which shows what I am expecting at all times... just those bits selected that would get selected if word-wrap would be off.

as I see on pic, Akelpad does the same (almost) as Cud, so I will keep current mode by option.

Err... the pic IS Cud and not AkelPad :D :D :D

AkelPad selects like ST. Not good.

So we need new mode like in Sublime.

@Alexey: I think we're getting ourselves into a fine muddle so let's go back to basics. Your image in post #11 shows ST doing columns with word wrap on. AP behaves exactly like ST. Both do what I am calling simple-minded column selections: just a simple, straightforward rectangle as selected on the screen. I assume some (many?, most?) people would expect exactly that and I have no problem whatsoever with including a further mode in Cud (even as default) that supports this style.

By contrast, current Cud can be made to do what I would expect: marking a part of the logical line and replicate exactly the same mark positions in the next logical line WITHOUT touching anything in between (exactly as my Cud image showed). In other words, my expectation (FWIW) is that doing a column selection with word wrap on should select EXACTLY the same block of characters as with word wrap off. (I may be in a minority.)

So whatever you do, PLEASE keep the way the current mode selects just the same part of every logical line at least as an option. It's not perfect because it jumps wildly around while dragging the mouse but at least I can make it do what I want.

yes, I will keep the current mode - using the option you will activate it.

Great :!:

And to paraphrase Beautiful South: "Perhaps should've kept my mouth shut" :D
