Mouse column selection do not work on MATE

Alt+drag - do nothing
Shift+Alt+click - do nothing
Shift+Alt+keyboard arrows - works well
Linux Mint MATE desktop

The reason-- Linux DE handles Alt+click by itself (to drag a window).
