cuda clears paste buffer on open ... why?

cuda - linux (deb)
an annoyance with cuda is it zaps the paste buffer on opening.

actions: viewing a say a web page or whatever in another app (including next most common using VS in a v-box)
highlight and copy text in that app
start cuda (opens default open to my scratch/notes file ... so far, so good ... that is good)
paste ... nothing, ^V nothing ... paste paste paste ... nothing
have to go back to the other app, re-highlight, re-copy, switch to cuda, to paste.

why cuda purge the paste buffer on open?
sure, a minor annoyance? but no other editor/app I use does this (n++ in the vbox, nqq in linux, terminal (both), excel, libre ...)

I cannot reproduce this on Linux, Xubuntu 22.
both on qt5 and gtk2 version (1.215.x). both can paste last copied block (from Firefox).
